
Sahmie S. Wytewa
Sahmie S. Wytewa is a community raised and inspired member of the Hopi tribe, Piikyasngyam from the village of Misongnovi. A mother of three and grandmother to six grandchildren, Sahmie credits her strength to her connection to Hopi culture, community, and identity. She values opportunities to listen and work collaboratively with stakeholder groups to create meaningful partnerships and build capacity for sustainable community-led efforts. Wytewa is the tribal liaison at the University of San Diego. She has served as a tribal liaison and policy coordinator with the Arizona Department of Education, the deputy executive director of the Hopi Tribe, a certified K-12 teacher and with the Bureau of Indian Education, public and tribally controlled grant schools, and an independent consultant.
