Ryan Finley
San Diego native Ryan Finley has been the Union-Tribune’s sports editor since January 2023. Before returning home, he spent 18 years as an award-winning high school sports editor, college football and baseball reporter and sports editor at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson, Ariz. He has also worked for Temecula’s The Californian, part of the North County Times. He holds a journalism degree from the University of Arizona, where he was editor of the Daily Wildcat in 2001 and served for more than a decade on the student media advisory board. He co-hosts the U-T’s “Hot Lava” podcast with Kevin Acee.
