ProduceGood, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing food waste and hunger in San Diego County, recently announced that ProduceGood Board President Ron Eng was recognized by Senator Catherine Blakespear, as an “Outstanding Volunteer,” as part of National Volunteer Month.
Throughout the month of April, National Volunteer Month, nonprofits, schools, libraries, hospitals and other community organizations submitted nominations to Blakespear’s office for their 2025 Outstanding Volunteers in Senator Blakespear’s District 38, according to a news release.
“The State of California has a proud tradition of volunteerism,” said Blakespear in the news release. “Volunteers selflessly dedicate time and energy to make our communities stronger, healthier and more vibrant.”
Blakespear honored 54 volunteers out of the almost one million residents in District 38, which stretches from Mission Bay to Mission Viejo. Nominees who volunteer or live in District 38, were recognized for their expertise, commitment, care and/or longevity, and honored in the District’s “Cheers for Volunteers” program.
“I’m so thrilled to be nominated, and feel humbled for the honor,” said Eng in the news release. “I have been involved with ProduceGood since the very beginning and feel inspired by the work that we do – gleaning the excess to give to the less fortunate is a noble and very important effort that I feel moved to participate in.”
There are multiple volunteer opportunities each month. Those interested should visit producegood.org to learn more.
