Re “Meeting its mission? Criticism of San Diego Humane Society piles up in wake of grand jury report, proposed budget cut” (June 1): I was shocked to read that the base pay of Humane Society CEO Gary Weitzman is $488,000. Gov. Newsom’s salary is approximately half of that amount. How can there be any comparison to  Newsom’s “skills required to manage a complicated and dynamic organization,” as cited by the Humane Society’s officials in defense of Weitzman’s pay? There must be some ability of all salaried individuals .
