A weak tropical storm system that unexpectedly developed west of Mexico and California could produce light and sporadic showers across San Diego County this weekend, potentially affecting some of the many outdoor events scheduled to take place.

Friday will be a bit warmer than usual, with temperatures reaching 73 degrees or higher in San Diego, the National Weather Service says. But tropical moisture will begin moving ashore late in the day and will spread from the coast to the inland foothills and valleys to mountains.

Forecasters say the moisture could produce lots of mist at Petco Park on Friday and Saturday nights when the Padres host the Pittsburgh Pirates, and it may linger into Sunday, when the teams play their third game at 2:10 p.m.

The drizzly weather also could dampen spirits at Harbor Beach in Oceanside on Saturday, when the Beach Soccer Championship gets underway. And it could last into Saturday night, when San Diego’s Summer Movies in the Park program is scheduled to screen the baseball movie “The Sandlot” around 8 p.m. at Standley Recreation Center.

But the cool, moist air might prove a tonic for runners early Sunday morning, when the Rock and Roll Marathon kicks off at 6:15 a.m. in Balboa Park. The race is expected to attract close to 30,000 competitors.
