Re “House Republicans Trump’s big bill of tax breaks and program cuts after all-night session” (May 22): I am board chair of the San Diego Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. My adult children have cystic fibrosis and rely on Medi-Cal to cover the high cost of specialty physicians and medication.

Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening genetic disease that affects 40,000 people in the United States. There is no cure. Half of children and one-third of adults with cystic fibrosis rely on Medicaid. It helps cover the high costs of specialized treatments and fills critical gaps that private insurance doesn’t.

The proposed changes to Medicaid such as work reporting requirements and increased cost-sharing would make it harder for people with cystic fibrosis to get necessary care.

I am writing to express my deep concern about the proposed cuts to Medicaid and to urge California Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff to oppose changes that could jeopardize access to care for people with cystic fibrosis.
