Southern California Boys Regional Tennis Championships

When: Friday and Saturday

Where: Claremont Club

Defending champion: Irvine University High School

Schedule: Two San Diego Section teams will take part in Friday’s quarterfinals, with the winner advancing to the afternoon semis. Canyon Crest Academy takes on Palos Verdes Peninsula, while Torrey Pines will face Studio City Harvard Westlake. The championship match is Saturday, with the winner advancing to the May 31 state championship in Fresno.

Preview: Canyon Crest Academy won the CIF San Diego Section Open Division title and is led by senior Shaurya Bairaria and sophomores Chasen Wang and Aditya Khanna. Wang and Khanna won the San Diego Section doubles championship. Peninsula lost in the Southern Section semifinals. Torrey Pines, runner-up in the section Open Division, is led by senior Alex Bohrer and freshmen Liam Thiel and Andre Wang. Harvard Westlake lost 10-8 to Irvine University in the Southern Section Open Division championship. The format features four singles and three doubles matches.
