
Re “California’s low homeownership: Will it ever get fixed">May 4): One creative way to increase homeownership and put more homes on the market would be to put a limit on the number of homes that one person, company or entity can own, before additional property tax is added. If there was a number — whatever it is, 10, 20 or so — and an entity owned more, raise the property tax 10% or more for each additional home owned. This would discourage entities from buying up hundreds or thousands of homes and turning the masses into renters. In addition, limiting the number of Airbnb rentals someone can own to one would help.
In summary, make homes for the people, not just about profits. An additional huge help would be to make it much easier to add a single ADU or tiny home to a property throughout the county.
