This summer, locals can enjoy Memorial Park in Chula Vista in a new way with the debut of Movies in Memorial.
Starting on June 14, the park will be the scene of an outdoor movie venue, hosted by the Downtown Chula Vista Association, with free screenings of family-friendly films. Guests can bring blankets and snacks and find open seating.
Here’s the schedule for the summer:
June 14: “The Goonies”
June 28: “The Secret Life of Pets”
July 12: “Selena”
July 26: “Nacho Libre”
Aug. 9: “Encanto”
Each film will begin at sunset around 7:30 p.m. and the events are expected to end around 9:30 p.m.
Also in Chula Vista this summer, the city’s Movies in the Moonlight series will return, showing movies in other parks across the area. These free screenings allow locals to bring their own lawn chairs, snacks and blankets.
Here’s this year’s schedule:
May 30: “The Wild Robot” at Heritage Park
June 13: “Moana 2” at Montevalle Park
July 25: “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” at Harborside Park
Aug. 29: “The Little Mermaid” at Loma Verde Pool
Sept. 26: “Dog Man” at Rohr Park
Oct. 24: “Hotel Transylvania” at Escaya Park
The Aug. 29 movie at Loma Verde Pool will require swimming fees. All Movies in the Moonlight will start at dusk, except the June 13 screening, which will start after 9 p.m.
