
San Diego County’s two largest Marine bases on Monday kicked off Semper Duris, an annual t exercise that’s meant to sharpen their ability to deal with a variety of emergencies, including attacks against their installations.
The drills, which will last through Thursday, are based at Camp Pendleton, the largest Marine base on the West Coast. Participants also include Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the home of fighter jets, transport planes and helicopters.
The Marines said the FBI, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services are also involved in the drills.
In the past, the emergency exercises have varied from dealing with chemical explosions to cyber attacks to bomb threats and the need to rapidly deploy forces.
