
Female athletes from San Diego State and UC San Diego won five events at their respective conference track and field championships last weekend, while both the men’s and women’s track teams scored at the California Community College finals.
San Diego State’s Shaquena Foote and Jada Pierre picked up wins and scored in other events to lead the Aztecs to a fourth-place finish in the team standings of the Mountain West Conference championships at Clovis.
Foote won the 400 meters in 52.12 seconds and finished third in the 200 meters at :23.28.
Pierre won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.12, the sixth-fastest time in Aztecs history. Teammate Charlize James was second at 13.29.
UCSD’s Tamara Aimufia won the long jump (6.08 meters) and Feyi Olukanni won the shot put (14.82 meters) as the Tritons competed in the Big West Conference championships for the first time at Long Beach.
The women’s meet ended with the UC San Diego 4×400 relay team winning in 3:37.90. Jordyn Thomas, Idara Ibekwe, Rachel Aguilar, Amari Jenkins, Lauren Schiele and Lauren McBride competed for the Tritons in the prelims and finals.

Mesa College finished second in the men’s team scoring and third in the women’s scoring at the California Community College state track and field championships in San Mateo.
• Cal State San Marcos is sending athletes to this week’s NCAA Division II track and field finals at Pueblo, Colo.
Rasha Badrani will compete in the 400-meter hurdles for the third straight year. Earlier this year, she posted a school-record time of 57.79 in the event. Badrani also won the NCAA Division II indoor title at 400 meters this year.
Kalathan Laiwa-McKay will be competing in the men’s shot put. He set a school record at 18.25 meters last weekend in the final qualifying meet of the season.
• CSUSM’s Madison Murr has been named the NCAA Division II Co-Golfer of the Year by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. The senior won the national individual title last week at the NCAA Division II Championships.
• Regular season champion USD (25-28, 19-5) has a bye in the first round of the West Coast Conference postseason baseball tournament in Las Vegas. The Toreros begin play Thursday against the lowest advancing seed from Wednesday’s opening doubleheader.
• Fifth-seeded San Diego State (19-37) will open play against fourth-seeded UNLV on Wednesday night in the Mountain West baseball tournament at Mesa, Ariz.
• UC San Diego lost two of three games in Hawaii over the weekend to finish the season 26-25 overall and 15-15 in the Big West Conference. The Tritons finished one win short of reaching the postseason tournament.
• Point Loma Nazarene University’s women’s tennis team advanced to the NCAA Division II championships for the first time. The Sea Lions (19-4) defeated Hawaii Pacific 4-3 last week in the Western Regionals after winning the PacWest Conference Tournament.
PLNU will face Augustana in Wednesday’s opening round at Altamonte Springs, Fla. The Sea Lions defeated Augustana 4-2 earlier this season. The Sea Lions are led by Anna Pallencaoe, Arianna Audelo, Alina Kupfer, Antonia Barth, Quin Brady and Emely Valencia. The doubles team of Audelo-Brady is ranked No. 9 nationally. Pallencaoe was named the MVP of the PacWest Tournament.
• Grossmont College sophomore Camille Seiley (Steele Canyon High School) doubled at the recent 3C2A state swimming championships, winning the 50 freestyle in a state-record time of 23.16 seconds and taking the 100 freestyle in 50.97. Seiley, who is headed to San Diego State, won the 50 for the second straight year. At the same meet, Grossmont’s Maya Garcia-Hale (Helix High) finished second in the 200 butterfly (2:10.46) and Mesa’s Sydney Fortune (Patrick Henry High) finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.65).
Grossmont won both the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men’s and women’s team titles.
