A pedestrian was struck and killed in El Cajon early Monday, police said.

The crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. on North Second Street between Flamingo and El Ray avenues. The man, who was wearing dark clothing, was standing in the street for an unknown reason when he was hit by the northbound vehicle, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with major injuries and died. He had not yet been identified as of late Monday morning.

The 58-year-old driver was uninjured and stayed at the scene to cooperate with the investigation, police said. The driver was not believed to have been impaired, police said.
