Boston Bateman got back on the mound Sunday. His offense got on a roll after his exit.

Slowed by a sickness, the 19-year-old left-hander threw two innings in his first action in 10 days and low Single-A Lake Elsinore banged out 14 hits in a 12-3 win over visiting Fresno.

Bateman hadn’t pitched since May 8. He struck out five and allowed two runs on five hits and a walk before exiting after 49 pitches (33 strikes).

The Padres’  2024 second-rounder has a 4.78 ERA through the first six starts (26 ⅓ innings of his career).

Last year’s first-rounder, Kash Mayfield, exited his last start on May 13 with shoulder discomfort, but he has not been placed on the injured list and the organization has expressed optimism that he’ll be back to throwing soon.

Left-hander Luis Gutierrez (1-3, 3.77 ERA) struck out eight and allowed only an unearned run in six innings of relief after Bateman’s exit to earn the win.

Third baseman Zach Evans (.814 OPS) drove in three runs on four hits and also walked.

Second baseman Ryan Jackson (.929 OPS) went 3-for-5 with an RBI and left fielder Kaden Hollow (.755 OPS) doubled in three runs.

Designated hitter Kavares Tears (.798 OPS) went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a walk and two runs scored.

Lake Elsinore is 17-22.
