It was a big weekend for a number of women’s athletic teams from area colleges.

San Diego State won the Mountain West softball tournament to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the 15th time, Cal State San Marcos advances to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals — and two local women’s teams won championships.

Mesa College captured the California Community College beach volleyball title with a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Fresno City College in the state championship match at Long Beach.

And the top-ranked CSUSM lacrosse team won the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division II national championship at Wichita, Kan.

Elsewhere, the University of San Diego men’s baseball team moved closer to the regular-season West Coast Conference title, San Diego State’s men’s golf team opened play in the NCAA Regionals at Tallahassee, Fla., and both the Palomar College softball and baseball teams advanced in 3C2A state championship play.

Mesa College reached the championship match by defeating defending state champion Feather River (3-1) and Cerritos (4-1) in pool play. Mira Costa College was eliminated by Fresno City in pool play.

The Olympians relied on their No. 1 tandem of sophomores Myah Gomez and Jaiden Mojica (Bonita Vista High School), who finished third in the state in the pairs’ championship.

Mesa College’s other two-women tandems were: No. 2 Ami Lagrimas and Layla Folkers (Clairemont High), No. 3 Halen Kiefer and Lia Go Soco (Scripps Ranch High), No. 4 Maria Coronado (Bonita Vista) and Eva Luna (University City High) and No. 5 Trina Nguyen (Mira Mesa High) and Bella Town (Carlsbad High).

Mesa finished the season with a 21-6 overall record and won a fourth straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title with a perfect 12-0 record.

• Freshman Shea Morgan (Fallbrook High) scored a record seven goals in the championship game to be named the Most Outstanding Player of the WCLA as CSUSM defeated Montana State 17-5 to win the title. UC San Diego finished sixth among the 11 teams at the WCLA National Tournament.

• San Diego State’s men’s golf team is tied for 11th at 6-over after the first day of the NCAA Super Regionals at Tallahassee, Fla. The Aztecs, who entered the three-round regionals ranked 15th in the nation and seeded third among the 14 entries, trail leader and host Florida State by 20 strokes.

• The eighth-ranked Cal State University San Marcos women’s golf team tees off in the NCAA Division II Nationals Tuesday morning at Boulder, Nev.

• Point Loma Nazarene baseball (37-16) plays Montana State on Thursday in the NCAA Division II West Regionals in Nampa, Idaho.

• Both the Palomar College baseball and softball teams advanced in state playoffs last week. The Comets’ No. 1-ranked softball team (40-3) will take a 15-game winning streak into the four-team, double-elimination state finals starting Thursday in San Jose.

Palomar’s baseball team (35-11) travels to Cypress Friday for the opener of a best-of-three Southern California Regionals, series with the winner gaining a berth in the state championships.
