Re “San Diego Unified could overhaul how it renames schools and mascots” (April 27): Is this piece really just satire? It must be. With public schools in California consistently rated as among the worst in the country, and so many children unable to read or do basic math anywhere near grade level, most sane individuals would conclude that the school board has more important issues to worry about than whether the name of a school mascot should be changed from “dogs” to “cats.”
The very last thing our children need is yet another policy, process, committee and a minimum of two public input sessions to debate faux naming outrage by people wanting to be offended by everything.
Perhaps the school board could focus on teaching the “three Rs” instead. But maybe that’s just me.
