Guided nature walk at lagoon

The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation will host a free nature walk for all ages at 10 a.m. May 17 starting at the Nature Center, 7380 Gabbiano Lane. The Chula Vista Salvation Army Woman’s Auxiliary will hold a Bingo Fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. May 17 at the Chula Vista Salvation Army, 648 Third Ave. There will be bingo games, opportunity drawings, prizes and refreshments. German May festival with food, entertainment

The San Diego German American Societies will put on a Maifest from noon to 7 p.m. May 17 at 1017 Mollison Ave. The family-friendly festival features more than 20 vendor booths with handmade crafts, a Kids Zone, two live bands and dancing performances throughout the day. Snake Talk at museum

North Coast Symphony Presents ‘Voices of Spring’

The North Coast Symphony Orchestra presents “Voices of Spring,” a program of operatic favorites at 2:30 p.m. May 17 at the San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdelena. The performance features Katherine Polit (soprano), Sarah-Nicole Ruddy-Carter (mezzo soprano), Aaron Humble (tenor) and Michael Sokol (baritone), and includes selections from operas by Delibes, Saint-Saens, Donizetti, Verdi, Offenbach and Wagner. Community Pet Food Bank open Saturdays

The Community Pet Food Bank at Rancho Coastal Humane Society is open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays at 389 Requeza St. The Pet Food Bank provides food and other supplies for the pets of senior citizens, low-income families, people with disabilities or terminal illnesses, veterans and of the homeless community. High school hosts community event

Escondido High School will put on its second Cougar Showcase for the community from 3:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. May 22 at 1535 N. Broadway. Highlights include an Ag project showcase, farm tours, a car show, student performances, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), children’s activities and sport activities. Self-guided hidden gardens tour

The Fallbrook Garden Tour, themed “Strolling Through Our Hidden Gardens,” is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17. The self-guided tour features seven gardens, two of which are also part of a National Garden Tour. Garden tour benefits Historical Society

The Secret Garden Tour of La Jolla and Secret Garden Boutique, a fundraiser for the La Jolla Historical Society’s education and public programs, is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17. The tour includes some of La Jolla’s most beautiful secluded gardens and expert docents who share historical and botanical insights. There will be live music and art displays. Organ recital with Grammy nominee

The La Jolla Music Society will present an organ recital at 7:30 p.m. May 16 at St. James by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, 743 Prospect St. The recital features Cameron Carpenter, a virtuoso who plays classical and baroque music with the La Jolla Music Society. WindanSea Surf Club holds fundraiser

The nonprofit WindanSea Surf Club will host its third annual fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. May 17 at Duke’s La Jolla, 1216 Prospect St., where the upstairs patio and bar will be reserved for the event. Highlights include live and silent auction of trips, collectible surfboards, historical photos and presentations by the Y Strong Girls. Grammy nominee to perform on Giving Guitars Tour

Nashville-based, award-winning, modern country singer-songwriter Steven Cade will perform at several venues in North County as part of his Giving Guitars Tour. Cade, a Grammy nominee, is raising awareness of the importance of music as part of healing and is donating guitars and visiting shelters across the country. Cade’s performances include:

The 58th annual US Police & Fire Championships is from May 31 to June 7 at San Diego Marriott Mission Valley, 8757 Rio San Diego Drive. The California Police Athletic Federation hosts the multisport Olympics-style competition with athletes from across the country representing law enforcement, firefighters and officers from Corrections, Probation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Soroptimists put on bunco fundraiser

Soroptimist International of Vista and North County Inland is hosting a family-friendly bunco fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. May 17 at the Gloria McClellan Senior Center, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive. Tickets are $35 and include a light lunch, raffle and prizes. Tickets are at bit.ly/3Y8xfFm.

Friends and Newcomers group meets

The Vista Friends and Newcomers group hosts a variety of activities, from book club, bunco, mahjong, lunch groups, movies, theater and game day to wine tasting and afternoon tea and conversation. Annual Vista Duck Race at waterpark

The 24th annual Vista Duck Race is May 18 at The Wave Waterpark, 101 Wave Drive. Visitors can enjoy the water park from 1 to 4 p.m. for an ission fee of $5, which includes one “racing duck” to compete for more than $10,000 in cash, prizes and Wave attractions. The Duck Race at 2:30 p.m. features thousands of rubber ducks racing down the Wave’s Riptide Slide and floating to a finish along the Lazy River. Additional duck race entries can be earned by buying Vista Bucks (the city’s digital gift card) or making a purchase (one duck entry awarded for every $10 spent up to four per receipt.) from a downtown Vista business from May 9-18 and ing a picture of the receipt to vistaduckrace.com.
