Authorities have publicly identified an 86-year-old man who died this week from injuries he suffered last month in a Pine Valley-area traffic crash.

James Michel of Yuma, Ariz., was pronounced dead at UC San Diego Medical Center shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Michel was seriously injured on the morning of April 24, when the westbound car he was riding in rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped on Interstate 8 near Buckman Springs Road, the agency reported.
