Re “Mayor and congressman leaves behind legacy of service, scandal” (April 29): Rest in peace, dear Bob Filner. You did more than almost anyone to and praise the people of South Bay San Diego: Imperial Beach, San Ysidro, Nestor, Otay Mesa, Chula Vista, National City and those otherwise neglected people “south of 8.” His vitae spoke for itself. He fought vociferously for human rights. That the Dems did not circle the wagons to his worthy causes in the city of San Diego was a harbinger for the current dysfunction in that party. He would have loved the fight for democracy today.

Re “We are all flawed. Bob Filner was one of us.” (April 30): The letter writer asks for forgiveness for Filner’s behavior. My response is I will not consider ing that false equivalency until the many victims of Filner’s sexual harassment and battery forgive him. They won’t do that anytime soon. I want to see his estate repay the taxpayers of San Diego for the costs his dishonest denials incurred. Until that time, I will not mourn the loss of this predator who used his positions of power to facilitate his longtime victimizing behavior.
