
New brunch spot 6th & G arrives in San Diego
Rise & Shine Hospitality Group has opened 6th & G Breakfast Co. at 695 Sixth Ave., San Diego. The company’s latest breakfast/brunch concept has replaced the former Fig Tree Cafe. Dishes include waffle pops, matcha flood pancakes, Turkish eggs, chipotle chilaquiles, a grilled birria Sandwich and shrimp katsu benedict. Pizzeria coming to Normal Heights: Sonny’s, a 1980s Brooklyn-style pizzeria will open Wednesday at 1728 Madison Ave. in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood. The restaurant os owned by Jeff Fink and Matt Sieve, the team behind Madison on Park and Madi restaurants. Sonny’s will occupy a 3,500-square-foot, 100-year-old building that formerly housed an auto shop, and the owners plan to retain some of the buildings rustic history. Madison chef Tony Gutierrez and pizziola Jose “Franky” Pereyra have created a menu of 12-inch Neapolitan and New York-style pizzas, as well as pastas and Italian-American dishes like pan-fried breaded chicken cutlet, a Wagyu beef burger and baked clams. Madison’s beverage director Danny Kuehner has also created an Amaro-forward cocktail program. The restaurant will also offer Italian cooking classes and experiences. Treehouse opens in Sorrento Valley: Treehouse, a 9,300-square-foot dining collective, has opened in the Pacific Center life sciences campus in Sorrento Valley. Designed especially for workers in the community, the property features three dining concepts: Treehouse, The Can Do, both of which are now open, and The Perca, which will arrive next year. The Can Do, open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a coffee bar offering coffee drinks, teas, breakfast items and fresh pastries. Treehouse, open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., offers pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, salads and grain bowls. Coomber Craft Wines arrives in Vista: After 3-1/2 years of construction, Coomber Craft Wines opened a new location in downtown Vista on Thursday. Located near Mikko Sushi and Shaks restaurants, the new wine bar serves California-style wines by the glass and bottle, as well as food items delivered to the table from nearby restaurants. Owners Skip and Maureen Coomber opened their first location in mid-2019 on Mission Avenue in Oceanside. This urban winery makes its wines from Buellton and Paso Robles from grapes purchase from throughout Central and Northern California, focusing on Napa, Sonoma, and Sta. Rita Hills. Carbonara’s opens near SDSU: This fast-casual, scratch-made pasta restaurant opened April 23 in the College area of San Diego. Founded by Andrea Carbonaro, who previously launched Trattoria da Sofia and Aromi Cuisine, this quick-service, Sicilian-style pasta shop serves customizable bowls of pasta with optional protein, vegetable and cheese toppings. AANHPI Eats Week: MSG Hospitality will host this inaugural dining event May 10-18 at seven local restaurants in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
