
Re “Econometer: Should California drivers get charged by the mile?” (April 24): Fees and taxes are how California operates. So why stop with a mileage fee? Isn’t it about time to start taxing all food? That would bring in billions of dollars as everyone eats, not just drivers. So what if it’s another massive added expense for residents? Too bad.
Or do like SDG&E does and allow a “Competition Transition Charge” (included in every bill) on every chain grocery store’s cash- receipt in case someone is draining potential revenue by growing their own produce or deciding to shop at an independent grocer.
