UPDATED:

San Diego State added two more players from the spring transfer portal on Monday, landing junior defensive end August Salvati and junior wide receiver Donovan Brown.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Salvati is from Clearwater Fla. He comes from Florida Atlantic University, where he played in one game last season for the Owls.

In 2023, Salvati played at Texas’ Kilgore College, collecting 29 tackles with seven sacks and two forced fumbles.

The 6-1 Brown is from Montgomery Village, Md. He spent two years at Syracuse out of high school. After redshirting in 2022, Brown had 27 receptions for 321 yards and a touchdown during the 2023 season. He left the Orange amid a coaching change between the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

New Syracuse coach Fran Brown told reporters last spring that Brown “has some things that he has to take care of.” He played last season at New York’s Monroe University, where he caught 30 es for 611 yards and eight touchdowns.

Brown was a three-sport star at Maryland’s Quince Orchard High School, playing basketball and competing in track and field in addition to football.

As a senior, he was the Maryland 4A state champion in 200 and 400 meters and was third in the 100.

SDSU has now signed five players during the spring portal period. Last week, the Aztecs picked up Syracuse offensive lineman Kalan EllisCharlotte defensive lineman Kainoa Davis and Washington State safety Hunter Haines.

Class of 2026 QB decommits

SDSU was up to six commitments for its 2026 recruiting class, but that number has dropped to four the past two days following decommitments from Ventura High School quarterback Derek Garcia and Fresno Central East High School athlete Brandon Smith.

Smith announced his decommitment Sunday on social media, tweeting “my recruitment is officially 100% back open.”

Garcia’s decommitment was announced Monday on social media. He initially committed on Jan. 10, becoming the first member of SDSU’s 2026 recruiting class.

Garcia told the Union-Tribune at the time that he was compelled to act given that nearly two dozen of the top 50 QBs for 2026 already had made commitments. He is rated the No. 35 quarterback prospect in the nation by 247sports.com.

“The recruiting pattern has become crazy with QBs in my class,” Garcia said in January. “Everyone has been committing so early and there are already so many commits. I didn’t want to put myself in a spot where I didn’t have a home because I waited too long.”

Garcia, who had a dozen scholarship offers, also had considered Arkansas, Cal, Kansas and Minnesota. He did not immediately return a request for comment.

Mini-camp invitees

SDSU offensive lineman Nate Williams (New York Giants) and tight end Mikey Harrison (Denver Broncos) received invitations to NFL mini-camps over the weekend.

Williams started at right tackle for the Aztecs last season after transferring from Akron. Harrison had 15 receptions for 150 yards for the Aztecs last season after transferring from Colorado.

SDSU did not have a player selected in the NFL Draft for the third straight season. That’s the first time that has happened in more than 60 years (1960-62).
