UPDATED:

The Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be Saturday, giving people in San Diego County the opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted and expired medications.

The 28th edition of the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with 29 locations offering take-back services in San Diego County.

“Disposing of unneeded, unwanted, and expired medication protects families and the community,” San Diego DEA Special Agent in Charge Brian Clark said in a release. “Keeping medication locked up when it is in use and disposing of it as soon as it is no longer needed ensures it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.”

Participating locations will accept solid forms of medications and prescriptions such as pills, tablets and patches. Liquids must remain in their original, tightly sealed containers.

Vaping devices and cartridges will also be accepted with lithium batteries removed.

Illegal drugs and syringes will not be accepted.

Many San Diego-area law enforcement stations will be participating in the event. Visit dea.gov/takebackday to find a collection site near you.
