A 16-year-old boy died Sunday morning when he crashed the motorcycle he was riding into a curb on an Escondido street and was thrown from the bike, Escondido police said.

The teen, whose name was not released, was riding with another boy north on Bear Valley Parkway near Canyon Road when he struck the right curb and lost control, police said.

Escondido police did not say what time the incident occcured.

Witnesses stopped to provide medical assistance, but the teen died before he could be taken to a hospital. Police said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor.

Officers shut down both directions of Bear Valley Parkway for several hours while police investigated the crash and collected evidence. No other details were immediately available.
