Re “RFK Jr. says he plans to tell CDC to stop recommending fluoride in drinking water” (April 7): We began adding fluoride to our nation’s water supply in the mid-1940s, and research has shown its positive effects on children’s dental health since that time, which is why it is ed by the American Dental Association and other health-related organizations. This is particularly important in low-income neighborhoods, where children often are not able to visit the dentist as often as one might wish.

Let’s , Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has shown himself on other occasions to place his beliefs ahead of the data, and his position on fluoride is simply one more example of that tendency.
