The Ramona High School varsity baseball team is gearing up for a match up against the Valley Center Jaguars on April 17 at Petco Park.

The San Diego Padres in collaboration with CIF San Diego are presenting this opportunity for the two schools to participate in the John Baumgarten Classic High School Baseball games and to play on a major league field.

First pitch is at 4 p.m. Valley Center Head Coach Bill Dunkel was approached by CIFSD as they came up in rotation for this year’s games played at Petco, team officials said. The Bulldogs were already scheduled to play the Jaguars in a three-game series the week of April 14.

The Bulldogs will have home team advantage.

“It is a great honor to play in the John Baumgarten Classic High School Baseball game,” said Chris Bertolero, Ramona’s head varsity coach. “It is great for the high school, the town of Ramona and especially for the players on the team. It is a special day and game for sure.”

This is Bertolero’s first year as head varsity coach.

The Bulldogs had their first pre-league home game on March 21, getting a win against Mission Vista Timberwolves. Follow the Ramona High School Baseball Program Instagram page, rhsbaseballprogram, for this season’s game schedules and updates.

Football coaches in demand at Ramona High

Ramona High School seeks to expand its football program with additional coaches.

Damon Baldwin, the school’s athletic director and head coach, said he is looking to hire new coaches for its junior varsity and freshmen football teams. The football program is growing so more lower-level coaches are needed, he said.

If anyone is interested in coaching, email Baldwin at [email protected].
