Pizza specials: North Italia’s Pi Day celebration continues with a monthlong campaign of limited-time pizzas on the menu. Locals can try the Costa Brava, which contains clams, crab, pancetta, tomatoes, crushed chili and lemon. It is crafted by executive chef Enrique Hernandez and is inspired by seafood from Italy’s Amalfi Coast. There is also the Lasagna Verde pizza available, which mixes oregano, basil, mozzarella, pecorino and bechamel sauce. It is influenced by Bologna Italy’s classic lasagna Bolognese. The limited-time pizzas are priced at $22 each and available through April 11. North Italia is located in Fashion Valley and the One Paseo shopping center. northitalia.com
Taste of the Triangle: Farmer & The Seahorse is hosting Taste of the Triangle, where foodies can try dining options and schools in the University City area. The event is organized by the University City Foundation for Public Schools, also known as EdUCate! Ticketed guests will receive two drink vouchers and unlimited tastes from several restaurants such as Snooze A.M. Eatery, Panini Kabob Grill and Lorna’s Italian Kitchen. Food for a cause: Fish Shop is holding a fundraiser on World Down Syndrome Day. All three locations will donate 10 percent of sales to the nonprofit Gigi’s Playhouse, which has free educational programs and activities for people with Down syndrome. Fish Shop will also donate 50 cents from every elote taco sold to Gigi’s Playhouse through the end of March. The Fish Shop has locations in Encinitas, Pacific Beach and Point Loma. Chili cookoff fundraiser: The public can enjoy some chili and help local groups at the Lemon Grove Lions and Lemon Grove Forward Club’s Chili Cookoff Fundraiser. The event features a chili-tasting contest, where participants vote for the best, along with music, a raffle, silent auction and a cash bar. National Puppy Day deal: Monkey Bar at the Town and Country Resort is serving special happy hour deals for National Puppy Day in collaboration with the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Its Yappy Hour menu includes $10 specialty cocktails such as the Rescue Dog Sangria and the Good Boy, which mixes vodka, cold brew coffee, peanut butter whiskey, espresso and brown sugar. Other specials to expect are $13 pizzas, $9 house spirits and $7 draft beers and house wines. There will also be wine samplings from Rescue Dog Wine, live music and photo opportunities. Wine dinner pairing: A five-course dinner and wine pairing is what the restaurant and bar VAGA, Kosta Browne and Duckhorn Wine are preparing for one night only. Guests will savor various foods and wine pairings such as crab cakes and Kosta Browne chardonnay, smoked duck breast and Duckhorn red wine, trout and Kosta Browne 2022 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and braised short ribs and Kosta Browne Burgundy Series 2021 Beaune Premier Cru Pinot Noir.
