The Aztecs received a verbal commitment Tuesday from Isaiah Lucero, a 6-foot-1 wide receiver/cornerback from Covina Northview High School.
Lucero is a standout on both sides of the ball. As a receiver, he caught 60 es last season for 1,001 yards and 12 touchdowns. He had receptions of more than 30 yards in seven of 11 games, topped by a 72-yard reception in a victory over Diamond Ranch High School.
On defense, Lucero had 31 tackles and five interceptions. The highlight was a three-interception game in a victory over Alta Loma. He also was a kickoff returner for the Vikings, taking back two kickoffs for touchdowns.
“What made me choose San Diego State is the relationship with the coaching staff I was building with them over several months,” Lucero said. “I don’t prefer a position. I’ll do what the coaching staff wants me to do. I’m an all-around athlete.”
SDSU now has five commitments for the Class of 2026. Lucero is ed by Ventura High School quarterback Derek Garcia, Fresno Central East High School athlete Brandon Smith, Rancho Cucamonga High School offensive tackle Malik White and Moraga Campolindo High School tight end Crosby Kelly.
This is the earliest SDSU has ever received commitments for the following year’s recruiting class. The Aztecs’ first commitment last year for the Class of 2025 did not come until April 29.
