One person was killed after a commuter train and vehicle collided Tuesday in Escondido, officials said.

The incident was reported just before 1:10 p.m. near the intersection of Enterprise Street and West Mission Road, Escondido Fire Department officials said.

The incident involved a westbound North County Transit District Sprinter train and a vehicle, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said.

One person suffered major injuries and died, fire officials said.

It was unclear if there were additional injuries.

The investigation resulted in a six-hour service disruption for train commuters. The normal schedule resumed by 7 p.m.

Buses would be provided bridge service to Sprinter riders with service down in the area between the Escondido Transit Center and Norhdal Road, the North County Transit District posted on the social media platform X.

The incident is under investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office’s transit enforcement unit.
