The first 30,000 fans who enter Snapdragon Stadium on Saturday night for San Diego FC’s inaugural home match will be handed a scarf to commemorate the occasion.
That’s one way to get people to come into the stadium early for what the MLS club is promoting as “a historic night for San Diego.”
A sellout in the 35,000-capacity stadium is expected for the 7:30 p.m. match against St. Louis City SC, with San Diego FC officials expecting to set a Snapdragon attendance record.
The largest crowd in Snapdragon’s three-plus-year history was the 34,248 who attended the Wrexham-Manchester United match in July 2023. That sured the 34,046 announced for Snapdragon’s debut, when the San Diego State football team opened the 2022 season against Arizona.
San Diego FC debuted Sunday with a 2-0 victory over reigning MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy in Carson.
Fewer than 50 standard seats (starting at $125 each) for Saturday’s home opener remained as of Thursday afternoon on TicketMaster, which also listed resale tickets starting at $117.
San Diego FC is holding back some seats for those interested in purchasing season-ticket hips for the club’s 21 home matches. Those packages begin at $40 per match, with perks that include 20% off merchandise.
Club officials said a limited number of season-ticket hips remain, although they did not say how many total hips have been sold this season.
