A man was killed in what authorities suspect was a hit-and-run crash on an Interstate 8 on-ramp in El Cajon early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

A caller reported a man lying in the road on the ramp from Second Street to westbound I-8 shortly before 2 a.m., the CHP said. He was taken to a hospital with injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, officials said.

He later died. His name has not been released.

Any witnesses with information about the crash can call the CHP’s El Cajon office at 619-401-2000.
