The public is invited to hear world renowned author, speaker, activist and public theologian Brian McLaren speak on the topic, “Why Worlds Fall Apart (And What to Do About It).” This will include discussion of his new book, Life After Doom: Wisdom and Courage for a World Falling Apart. The book explores the complexity of hope, the necessity of grief, and the need for new ways of thinking, becoming, and belonging in turbulent times.
This free event is sponsored by San Dieguito United Methodist Church and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Encinitas.The event will be held Sunday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at San Dieguito United Methodist Church (170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas).
In addition, McLaren will deliver the morning sermon at two churches on Sunday, Feb. 23. The public is invited to San Dieguito United Methodist Church for the 9:30 a.m. service or to Bethlehem Lutheran Church for the 10:30 a.m. service. Bethlehem Lutheran Church is located at 925 Balour Drive, Encinitas.
McLaren is an author, popular blogger, frequent guest on television, radio, and news media programs, and has taught or lectured at many seminaries, denominational, and interfaith gatherings.
He is a ionate advocate for “a new kind of Christianity” – just, generous, and working with people of all faiths for the common good, according to a news release.
