
The city of Lemon Grove is accepting applications from residents and local business owners interested in serving on a committee that will oversee how funds from a new sales tax are spent.
Measure T ed in November with about 72% of Lemon Grove voters. The measure increases the city’s sales tax from 7.75% to 8.75% for 10 years, creating a projected annual revenue of $5.96 million.
The money can be used to fund parks, community facilities, fire protection, paramedics, police and emergency services, homelessness, infrastructure and other needs.
Applications to serve on the new Measure T Oversight Committee are being accepted through 5 p.m. Feb. 20.
The measure added a municipal code chapter that mandates the formation of an oversight committee to monitor how money from the measure is spent.
Applicants to the five-member committee must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old at the time of appointment, and be a Lemon Grove resident or own a business within the city.
People who submit an application by Feb. 20 will have an opportunity to present their qualifications to the City Council during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 25.
A random drawing will determine the order of presentations, followed by potential questions from council .
The final selection of the five committee will take place during the regular City Council meeting at 6 p.m. March 4.
