
The high school surf team of The Grauer School, an independent school in Encinitas, finished in first place overall in Division 5 at the most recent Scholastic Surf Series (SSS) surf competition in Oceanside, according to a news release.
The high school surf team was stoked to finish in first place overall, and their individual surfers also did well in their competitions. Team Captain Ella Stocker (’26) was first in Women’s Longboard and second in Women’s Shortboard, Zahara Hamzeh-D’Ovidio (’28) was third in Women’s Shortboard, Ronin Mortimer (’25) was sixth in Men’s Bodyboard and Noe Pegulu (’25) was fifth in Men’s Longboard.
“The Grauer School is proud to be a reflection of the best of all that our community has to offer,” said Trevor Olson, athletic director for The Grauer School, in the news release. “Our Grauer surfer-scholars are not only athletes, they are also stewards of the ocean and coastal ecosystems in accordance with our school’s ecological focus.”
The Grauer School was founded in 1991 by Dr. Stuart Grauer, Head of School Emeritus, and an avid surfer himself. The independent school has a rich surfing heritage and history gained through many years of fielding competitive surf teams, the news release stated.
