Simple Minds is embarking on its most extensive U.S. tour in 40 years, and San Diego is on its itinerary.

The Scottish rock band, best known for its international chart-topping 1985 hit, “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” on Monday announced its “Alive & Kicking” concert trek. The group’s May 24 performance at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre is the third of three Southern California dates on the tour, which will feature opening sets by Soft Cell and Modern English.

This will be Simple Minds’ first San Diego show since a 2018 gig at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay. The band’s current lineup features two co-founders of the 48-year-old group from Glasgow, lead singer Jim Kerr and guitarist Charlie Burchill. The most recent Simple Minds’ album, “Direction of the Heart,” was released in 2022.

The tour is timed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the band’s biggest hit, the international chart-topper “Don’t You (Forget About Me).”

Tickets for the May 24 concert here go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday via livenation.com and ticketmaster.com. The price range goes from $35 to $149.50, plus service fees.

There will be at least seven pre-sales, starting with a Citi card holder pre-sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

It will be followed by 10 a.m. Wednesday pre-sales on livenation.com, ticketmaster.com and the Simple Minds website. What is being described as “other presales” on unspecified websites will also start at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Spotify presale at noon Wednesday.
