UPDATED:

As the one-year anniversary of historic San Diego flooding nears, the county Assessor’s Office is reminding property owners affected by it to file for property tax relief ahead of the deadline on Wednesday.

Flood victims who had at least $10,000 in damage to their home or commercial property due to the 2024 winter floods can have their property taxes temporarily reduced until the property is restored.

Qualified applicants must submit an “application for reassessment of property damaged by misfortune or calamity” — a one-page form that can be completed in person or online — by Wednesday to receive relief.

“My office is focused on delivering the maximum available property tax relief to San Diego County homeowners and businesses impacted by the 2024 floods so they can focus on rebuilding their lives,” county Assessor Jordan Marks said.

Marks encourages even those who are unsure they qualify to fill out an application ahead of the Jan. 22 state-mandated deadline.

People who have already submitted an application do not need to refile.

Flood victims who would like to that they have filed the necessary claim or need further help from property tax relief experts can email [email protected] or call 619-531-6130.
