A 30-year-old man jogging in the Ocean Beach area was struck and killed by a driver in a speeding sedan early Thursday, and San Diego police recovered an abandoned vehicle a short time later believed to be involved in the fatal crash.
The man was running east on West Point Loma Boulevard and began to cross Nimitz Boulevard against a red light when he was struck by the driver of a black BMW sedan around 5 a.m., police said.
A witness told police the BMW appeared to be racing with a white Ford Mustang when the man was struck, police Officer David O’Brien said. A third vehicle, a red Dodge Charger, also was seen driving at a high rate of speed. None of the drivers stopped.
The victim died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name has not been released. Police initially said the man was 20 but the county Medical Examiner’s Office gave his age as 30.
Officers recovered the BMW believed to be involved in the crash at Canon Street and Rosecrans Street shortly before 6:50 a.m., O’Brien said. The driver was not with the car.
Police have closed off several streets in the area to conduct the investigation, including West Point Loma Boulevard from Castelar Street to Valeta Street.
OnScene.TV video showed a black BMW with front-end damage that was found by police.

The victim's age was updated in this story.
