The American Legion Post 332 in Ramona is bringing back its annual Operation Flapjacks veterans appreciation breakfast and fundraiser after a four-year break that began with COVID.

The reinvigorated seventh annual Operation Flapjacks is set for 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. The event will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3783 at 2247 Kelly Ave.

Operation Flapjacks will include pancakes, sausage, bacon and eggs along with coffee and orange juice. The fee is $5 per person for the public but free for veterans, active duty military and their immediate families.

Ray Van Meter, commander of the Ramona American Legion Post, said the VFW Post is now considered the Ramona American Legion’s home base. Before COVID, the American Legion’s meetings were often held in the Ramona Community Library and its pancake breakfasts at the Ramona Senior Center. But now the VFW Post is the organization’s official meeting place.

Van Meter said the American Legion is appreciative to Ramona VFW Commander Karen Welch and other VFW for their hospitality and encouragement for his small veterans organization with roughly 60 .

“We are appreciative of the Ramona VFW for reaching out to us and welcoming us into their facility,” he said. “The whole leadership team and elected officers have been so welcoming to us.”

During the breakfast, a ceremony will be held to recognize that there are prisoners of war (POWs) and missing in action military (MIAs) who are still uned for, Van Meter said.

“None of our organizations will relax until there is a full ing for the prisoners of wars and missing in actions,” he said. “There’s a federal list and all the veterans organizations will not quit demanding a full ing for all those POWs and MIAs.”

Operation Flapjacks attendees can participate in an opportunity drawing for gift baskets donated by local community and businesses.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward ing the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) at Ramona High School in addition to the American Legion Girls’ and Boys’ State Candidates and the Scouts of America Ramona BSA Troop 768.

The American Legion Post 332 continues to search for event sponsors and donations. For more information, email Van Meter at [email protected] or visit The American Legion Post 332 Facebook page.
