Gun owners can turn in unwanted weapons and get a gift card in exchange at a no-questions-asked event on Saturday in Vista.
The firearm must be in working order and unloaded when it is brought to the North County Regional Center on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Officials will give a $100 gift card for handguns, rifles and shotguns, and a $200 gift card for assault weapons and ghost guns.
Gun owners are asked to leave their firearms in the trunks of their vehicles and seek out a deputy or officer at the site for further instruction. All of the weapons collected will be destroyed.
Event organizers also plan to hand out free gun cable locks and security boxes, while supplies last, to gun owners looking to safely secure firearms at their homes.
The event is being put on by the Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, the Oceanside Police Department and the city of Vista.
