Domestic turkeys were such a major part of Ramona’s past that the town was known as “Turkey Capital of the World” and celebrated that heritage by holding “Turkey Days.”
Featuring parades, concerts, balls and community picnics, the highlight of Turkey Days each year was the crowning of the Turkey Day Queen, and she and her court would wear outfits made of turkey feathers.
This year, the community is invited to take part in Guy B. Woodward Museum’s “Turkey Capital of the World” exhibit, by entering “Turkey Days Reimagined,” where modern items inspired by past Turkey Days can be submitted.
Local artists, clubs, youth groups, sewing and art classes, designers and more are encouraged to submit their own Turkey Day-inspired outfit, decoration, artwork or accessory for display in the exhibit.
Deadline for submissions is Aug. 1. The exhibit is scheduled to open in September, with a date to be announced, and to close in November. Submissions will be returned at the end of the exhibit.
