Sea lion ‘conservationists’ have spoiled The Cove

Pinnipeds and swimmers got along just fine for years at The Cove, until busybody “conservationists” decided to intervene (“La Jolla leaders want action to deter or remove sea lions at The Cove,” July 18, La Jolla Light).

After “Blackfish,” SeaWorld faced a backlash and all of a sudden had to change its image. They now take it upon themselves to save every single sea lion, without regard to Darwin.

It’s a shame what’s become of La Jolla Cove: stinky; unsightly signs everywhere warning tourists; rangers walking around patrolling the area. It is not The Cove that my kids and I swam just a few years ago.

Not to mention the local species that are being decimated due to the overpopulation of sea lions. Garibaldi were easy to spot from the surface. Not anymore.

[California] sea lions are not and have never been endangered. Stop messing with the environment!

Action to keep e-bikes off bike path is overdue

Over the last year, students’ bikes have been almost totally replaced by e-bikes. When walking or running on the [La Jolla] bike path, we now have to jump as the bikes speed by with no bell, honk, verbal cue or other alert (“Amended legislation would allow cities to prohibit kids under 12 from riding e-bikes,” June 20, La Jolla Light).

I feel especially sorry for parents pushing babies in strollers or accompanying biking or walking toddlers. A crash with an e-bike could create a severe injury.

The bike path has signs stating that e-bikes are not allowed on the path. When will the law be followed?
