Re “Why budget is certain to violate state Constitution” (June 8): Joe Mathews’ opinion piece does not meet the stress test of sound reasoning and error-free grammar. Mathews opines that Gov. Newsom’s budget violates the California Constitution. It’s our elected governor and state legislators, organized under the cabal that is the Democratic Party, not the budget, who are violating the Constitution.
Mathews blames “powerful Sacramento interest groups” for the budget problems. The power that interest groups hold is only that which is given to them by the governor and Legislators, in fear of losing their own power in the next election.
Mathews falsely lays “the problem with the blame game” on the Constitution. You can’t hold the Constitution or a budget document able for anything, just as you can’t kick the Constitution out of office. But you can kick politicians out of office who play the blame game.
