Cathy Sweetser and her friend Mark Someson sit inside her new RV that they live in while parked in a public parking lot in Mission Beach in San Diego on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 in San Diego, California. Sweetser said that she was unable to pay for the property taxes and upkeep of her house in El Cajon. So she sold the house and bought an RV as a way to live and make ends meet. She says she has money, but she's on a six month waiting list to get into an RV park. In the meantime they have to park in public parking lots that police tell them they cannot stay in.

What are Mayor Todd Gloria and the City Council thinking when they allow dozens of RVs, motor homes and trailers to line the streets of West Mission Bay and the nearby parking lots? What do visitors think when they see what resembles a Third World country in what is supposed to be “America’s Finest City”?

It’s time to clean up that mess and have these “campers” go to designated safe lots. The beaches and parks should be for all to enjoy without having to deal with this kind of a situation.
