“Re “Opinion: Let us reaffirm our collective commitment to protect the planet — starting in San Diego.” (April 19): Joe LaCava’s article helped me to realize that kids should be doing more to protect the planet. Many articles and calls to action appeal to our communities’ adults but are failing to reach kids at a significant level.
I believe some of the best ways to reach the younger generations are through providing student representation in action plan committees, internships, summer jobs or other student-credit roles in green industry and energy. Government and industry leaders are in a position to provide such roles by connecting schools with organizations already making steps towards sustainability. Making these roles available not only benefits current efforts, but also motivates students with hands-on experience to sustain the movement.
