La Costa Racing will hold the School’s Out slalom skateboard race on June 8-9 for juniors and adults at the “world famous” Penasquitos Pump Station off Interstate 15 on Cara Way, a long hill that is closed to traffic. The competition will be an International Slalom Skateboarding Association sanctioned event with two days of racing in hybrid slalom and giant slalom.
This year La Costa Racing is celebrating its 50 year anniversary— in 1974, skateboarders started organizing slalom races on the barren hills in La Costa, Carlsbad. The team practices, hosts races and competes nationally and internationally—coach and racer Lynn Kramer is a 17-time world champion.
The contest features a $2,000 prize purse with an equal split between men and women. The event is free for spectators to attend and will include a raffle.
Entry fees are $50 online and $60 cash on the hill with a $10 discount for La Costa Racing . Juniors are free. by June 4 at lacostaracing.com/schools-out-race-registration.
