Re “Gloria’s proposed budget avoids painful cuts with borrowing, other short-term fixes” (April 12): The proposed extreme cuts to the city of San Diego’s libraries is a bad move anytime but especially right now. Libraries are essential to the health of our communities, and at this moment extremely important for our children to explore and progress coming out of the recent very difficult times.
Homelessness needs a fix right now but also a serious effort at prevention. One important aspect is getting kids into libraries, spiking their interest in education and moving them towards self-sufficiency and becoming contributing citizens. Lack of education is a primary cause of homelessness.
Resources would be much better spent on libraries and schools than fantasy planning for Plan Hillcrest.
