The San Diego Gulls will try to snap a three-game losing streak on Saturday, when they take on the Ontario Reign at Pechanga Arena. The puck drops at 6 p.m.
San Diego (18-20-8-0) hasn’t won a game since Feb. 10, when it beat the Wranglers in Calgary, 7-4. The Gulls have been outscored 12-6 since then, losing at home to San Jose and Henderson and at Bakersfield. Tuesday’s loss to the Condors was especially cruel: The Gulls scored two power-play goals in the game’s first four minutes only to lose 4-3 in overtime. Bakersfield’s Carter Savoie netted the game-winner nearly two minutes into the extra period.
“Unfortunately, one bad bounce and we lose in overtime,” said Gulls winger Pavol Regenda, who scored San Diego’s first goal. “We just have to stick with our plan, do what we do and we’re going to be good.”
Saturday marks Fight Cancer Night. The San Diego Gulls Foundation will auction off player-worn black jerseys, each featuring a cancer ribbon patch on the front and a pattern of cancer ribbons on the rear numbers.
The Gulls sit in ninth place in the 10-team AHL Pacific Division. Ontario (23-19-3-3) is sixth.
