NuFACE is celebrating almost two decades of elevating consumers’ skin-care routines with its line of at-home microcurrent devices.
The Vista-based company was founded in 2005 by Carol Cole—a licensed aesthetician who began her career at Escondido’s Golden Door spa in the 1980s—and her daughters, Tera Peterson and Kim Morales. The trio launched the beauty brand out of their Encinitas home.
Cole had already become a specialist in microcurrent facials and had grown her career by traveling to Los Angeles to do at-home treatments for celebrities and A-listers. Peterson — who has a business degree from the University of Southern California — would often tag along during her mother’s trips.
Putting that degree to good use, the family developed its own collection of microcurrent devices that can be used at home to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and boost collagen production.
“When we were creating NuFACE there were three criteria that we had to meet,” said Peterson, the company’s chief creative officer. “One, it had to be easy; two, it had to be quick; and three, it had to deliver instant results.”
Peterson said what makes NuFACE devices so popular is that they’re painless, soothing, relaxing, require no downtime and do not leave redness on the skin. Devices can be used daily for five minutes and results are both instant and cumulative. Depending on the device, results can be seen on the face, cheek bones, neck, jawline, forehead, eyebrows, lips and on the body.
NuFACE products are manufactured in San Diego and are available online and in select retailers across the nation including Ulta, Sephora, Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s. In 2024, the company plans to release a new series called Fitness For Your Face Facial, which will be available on the NuFACE app.
