UPDATED:

A Point Loma site currently occupied by a consignment store is planned to become a three-story building with 39 apartments and two retail spaces.

Marengo Morton Architects, based in La Jolla, is behind the project at 4051 Voltaire St. The firm has performed residential and commercial projects across the county, including at OB Brewery, La Valencia Hotel and Duke’s Restaurant.

Representatives of Marengo Morton did not respond to questions about the details and timeline of the Point Loma plan.

Karen’s Consignment Gallery, a store for upscale furniture and home decor that has an 8,500-square-foot showroom at the site, also did not comment. The family-owned and -operated store has been in business since 1990.

A neighborhood development permit is still pending from the San Diego Development Services Department before construction can begin, according to Perette Godwin, a spokesperson for the city. Godwin said the project is proposing some units intended to be affordable for lower-income residents.

Godwin said a decision on the project is expected next spring.
