The first Santa Ana winds of autumn will help send temperatures into the mid-80s at the coast and upper 90s across some inland valleys and foothills Thursday through Saturday. But they’ll probably be too weak to stoke wildfires in San Diego County, the National Weather Service said.
“Some inland areas have had multiple rainfall events recently,” said Brandt Maxwell, a weather service forecaster. “Conditions are dry but not extremely so.
“If we repeatedly get sustained Santa Anas in the coming weeks things will change.”
The wind is expected to gust 35 mph to 45 mph in some inland valleys and es but will be weak elsewhere.
The temperature could hit 80 at local beaches Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday, 85 a mile or two from the coast and the 90s in areas generally east of Interstate 15.
San Diego’s average daytime high this time of year is 76.
The relative humidity will fall to 15 percent to 20 percent across inland valleys, foothills and mountains and 10 percent in the deserts. The humidity will be 20 percent to 25 percent in communities like Escondido and Mira Mesa and 40 percent at and near the ocean.
The sea surface temperatures will be in the 65-to-68-degree range from Oceanside to Imperial Beach. The surf will remain small into the weekend.
