Urban Sweet Cafe, a newly-remodeled coffee shop in San Marcos, is offering an elevated space for specialty coffee drinks, food items and more.

“We really wanted to capture more of a family environment and foster a cozy (place) where people can feel like ‘I’m not just here to get a coffee, but to also work, sit and enjoy the space,’” said owner Chinkie Abad.

The pet-friendly shop at 803 South Twin Oaks Valley Boulevard replaced the former Hob coffee shop (House of Black Coffee Company), offering a new look and revamped menu. The space now has couches, tables and chairs for lounging, as well as free WiFi.

Abad, who runs the shop alongside her fiance, Lucas Costa, said they are both experienced entrepreneurs who have operated a variety of small businesses over their lifetimes. Still, they were a little reluctant about creating a cafe with a full menu.

Ultimately, she said, the “stars sort of aligned” and they combined her ion for coffee with Costa’s love for food.

From specialty coffee drinks to bahn mi sandwiches, the cafe is bringing a flavorful and stylish experience to the San Marcos community.

Urban Sweet has 14 syrups for specialty coffee drinks, including the Kingslayer, a latte with organic agave and steamed cinnamon.

Menu items include crepes, sandwiches, toasts, beverages and grab-and-go options.

Abad and Costa also want to give back to the community, so they plan on partnering with local organizations for events, including National Night Out in August.

The cafe is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
